For two vibraphones
The title of the work
is based on Andy Warhol's
silkscreenseries Death and Disaster. Each of these works consists
of two panels. One panel shows a disaster or accident, the other
one is just a blank surface. This blank surface creates an introvert
and balanced comment on the shocking event; tension evokes relaxation,
relaxation is experienced as such because it is evoked by tension.
Tension is tangibly present throughout the whole piece eventhough
its immediate reproduction formed by a loud, fast and complex-chromatic
explosion on the point of the golden section, lasts only for a moment.
The largest portion of the work distinguishes itself by long spinned
out tones and chords and new playing techniques with special sounds,
where one vibraphone adds up to the other. It is not so that the
two instruments are eachothers opposites; they are melted
together forming one super-instrument.
